"Ask a Librarian Live" is a new service for many of our library clients around the country.

Our clients feel the need for this type of service is very important. With more materials online (catalogs, journals, books), their collections are becoming virtual.

A Chat with a Librarian Live button is displayed on appropriate web pages, which offer a direct link to a librarian, or the opportunity to send an email message if the service is not staffed at that time. Patrons do not have to download any software to access the service and the librarian can deal with several chat requests at the same time.

.Here are some other benefits of LiveAssistance in your library enviornment:

Dial-up users don't have to give up their phone connection to call the reference desk.

  • Remote patrons have access to interactive reference service.

  • Response time is much faster than e-mail.

  • LiveAssistance provides a transcript of the reference chat complete with URLs.

  • Some URLs are often very long and complicated and difficult to communicate correctly over the phone.
